Would this intake work?

I have a 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis 2 valve 281 4.6l V8 and I want to put a cold air intake on it. I found one for a 2001 Ford Crown Victoria with the same engine from K&N Air Filters and they said via email that it would not fit/work on my vehicle and I'm wondering why and if it truely doesn't work what cold air intake would?
