How dificult would it be to put a '47 chevy taigate on a '38?

i'm currently restoring a 1938 Chevy pickup. I have no tailgate, and i'm on a very tight budget. i can only find 37/38 tailgates for obscene prices, but have found a perfect condition '47 tailgate for only 50 bucks. could i take it to a body shop or something? maybe have them grind it down to proper dimensions, or would that either be impossible or make it look hideous?
