VP SS wont start ???????

My vp ss wont start, im assuming its a earthing problem?? i ran an additional earth from the negative terminal to the body a new earth off the altinator and a new earth to the motor, what happens is when i turn my key no lights no ignition no nothing comes up, when i hook up jumper leads negative to the terminal possitive to terminal still nothing but possitive to terminal and negative to eaither of the 3 earthing points i early mentioned within the engine bay, bang! all comes to life?? please help?!?!?!???!!?
